Seems to me you’ve leaped a mile to a conclusion here: You don’t know that it’s arson, but you’re willing to blame a gay person or persons for setting the fire anyway?

I must admit, I missed that one. I find reading rants like Bob's a little tough and they do tend to ramble a bit with in complete sentences and nonsensical sentences at times, so I scan them.

You're right, of course. Even if it was arson assuming a Gay person did it seems an indication of pure hate. What about it, Bob? Have any evidence, or are you just jumping to conclusion due to hate?

As an aside, many fundamentalists that call themselves Christians consider Mormons anything but Christians; and in less than glowing terms than even just "cult." (A term itself that has taken on a meaning I wish it hadn't. I don't find a "cult" automatically offensive. Jesus, in his time, was part of a cult and considered a heretic.) There are a lot of possible suspects here, even if it was arson, including maybe a pissed off Mormon. Like all faiths Mormons has their disaffected. Maybe even someone who wants more than one wife?

If we think about "magic underwear" and "Jesus came to America," they seem absurd; but no more absurd than the sun standing still as in the Old Testament, or the lineage of Jesus with different names and both starting with someone who supposedly had nothing to do with it: Joseph.

Bob, I have a few problems with what you wrote:

BOB: "We Christians need to remember that those who support homosexual marriage or abortion do not serve God." [...]
"Jesus said in the Gospel of Matthew that you can tell a tree by its fruit. A badtree produces bad fruit and ,by extension, supports bad fruit. Abortion andhomosexuality are bad fruit, they are evil practices and those who supportthem support the father of evil, Satan. So, if those who support evil, serve evil, what is the purpose of preachingtolerance?"

Jesus never once mentioned either homosexuality or abortion anywhere in the New Testament where he is direcly quoted. As far as evil, I'll let Jesus answer you from the KJV of the Bible:

"But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."
-- Matthew 5:39

"Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust."
-- Matthew 5:43-45

BOB: "Some activists have taken to the streets peacefully butothers are disrupting church services, disrupting heterosexual weddingceremonies, and threatening violence against Christians."

You must remember that avowed Christians, such as the man who murdered Dr. George Tiller in cold blood, and the man who murdered innocent people in that church in Knoxville, TN, in 2008, have killed in God's name. That is directly in defiance of "Thou shalt not kill." There were no qualifiers following that short commandment. And you can find nothing in the New Testament where Jesus condones killing or harming evil people for any reason. Certainly by mentioning those two killers I didn't mean to imply most Christians are murderers, but you are implying many gay people commit such destructive acts as you've described.

BOB: "The web blogs areoverflowing with violent and hateful rhetoric towards heterosexuals andChristians. Some of the statements online are outright death threats."

I read the web every day and have not come across much in the way of violent and hateful rhetoric against Christians, but I have found some very hateful rhetoric by supposed Christians toward non-Christians.

BOB: "Today, there is a report of a Mormon Temple that burned down and arson is stronglysuspected.Pardon me if I’m misinformed but aren’t gays supposed to be tolerant?"

Seems to me you've leapt a mile to a conclusion here: You don't know that it's arson, but you're willing to blame a gay person or persons for setting the fire anyway? Aren't Christians supposed to be accurate and fair? (And of course, "Judge not, that ye be not judged." Matthew 7:1.) Incidentally, the intolerance of others does not give you license to be intolerant, according to the teachings of Jesus.

"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."
-- Matthew 5:9

Do you think your dislike of gay people advances the interest of peacemaking and Jesus' commandment that you love your enemies?

I've been scanning the comments and don't recall "tolerance" or "tolerant" being used.

There's lots of chemicals applied to grass, bushes, outside of public buildings. Unless you have some solid proof, maybe they should have paid attention to the signs? No signs? Sue the organization that did it: probably the city or a pesticide company. Proof the clinic people did it? Call the police, file a lawsuit. I don't support that anymore than I do shooting abortion doctors.

Once again, I'm responding, right? Amazing how even when there's an attempt to converse and I personally approve your rants to be posted you cling to claims your freedom to speak is being taken away. I could have just left them in the cue, but I too believe in YOUR rights, as well as theirs.

Frankly, BOB, you don't know what I do and what I don't. But in case you're curious, I've never cared for dope. And, yes, despite the spelling, the lack of decent capitalization and rambling context, yes I can read this. And despite our differences, Bob, I thank you for visiting LT Saloon.
I hear a lot these days about tolerance. I hear, “ so-and-so is intolerant” etc.or, “stop being intolerant”. What is the true meaning of this word? What is itused for in our modern society? What is its true purpose? As I write this newsletter, there are protests going on in California.Homosexual activists are protesting that their side lost on Proposition 8 (thestate constitutional amendment defining marriage as only between one manand one woman). Some activists have taken to the streets peacefully butothers are disrupting church services, disrupting heterosexual weddingceremonies, and threatening violence against Christians. The web blogs areoverflowing with violent and hateful rhetoric towards heterosexuals andChristians. Some of the statements online are outright death threats. Today, there is a report of a Mormon Temple that burned down and arson is stronglysuspected.Pardon me if I’m misinformed but aren’t gays supposed to be tolerant? Isthat not what they preach? There is also a report in the news today about two pro-life women, participating in the 40 days for life prayer vigil outside of an abortion clinic, who were hospitalized for nausea and facial burns after they were poisonedby a chemical applied to the sidewalk where they had been praying. Ithought pro-choice people were tolerant. Is that not what they claim? While there have always been radicals in any movement, it seems it isgreatly on the increase since liberals won substantial victories in theNovember 4th election. There is a very good reason for this rapid increase. They are revealing the true color of their hearts… and it is dark.We Christians need to remember that those who support homosexualmarriage or abortion do not serve God. They serve a different master. InRomans it says that a man becomes a slave to whomever he chooses to obeywhether righteousness leading to life or sin leading to death. Those whoobey and serve Christ do not condone what He condemns. Christians serverighteousness and by extension, support it.Those who serve unrighteousness and sin also, by extension, support it.Jesus said in the Gospel of Matthew that you can tell a tree by its fruit. A badtree produces bad fruit and ,by extension, supports bad fruit. Abortion andhomosexuality are bad fruit, they are evil practices and those who supportthem support the father of evil, Satan. So, if those who support evil, serve evil, what is the purpose of preachingtolerance? It is a false truce.Until recently, those who supported abortion and homosexuality were verymuch in the minority in our nation. They mainly achieved their goalsthrough the courts rather than the democratic process because they wereoutnumbered and thus outvoted. However, their efforts to gain inroads intopublic opinion through infiltration of the mass media and the educationalsystem is starting to bear fruit…bad fruit. The recent successes they have had in this last election has emboldenedthem and allowed us a glimpse into the true nature of their character and thatcharacter is filled with the intents of the master they serve. They hate God’schildren. All this talk of “tolerance” was merely a false truce with which tospiritually disarm Christians until they had achieved a majority or sufficientpolitical power to deal with their adversaries. Mark my words, the momentthey achieve this goal they will drop all pretense of tolerance and their fangsand claws will be shown. They will then ruthlessly and mercilesslypersecute the children of God. “Tolerance” of these evil practices hasbought the time and space necessary for God’s adversaries to operate untilthey could gain the advantage. We are beginning to see the future here by thebehavior of these people now. Here is a quote by an anonymous author thatsums it up well.“ If we continue to teach our children about tolerance and intolerancerather than good and evil, we will end up with an entire generation thattolerates evil. Tolerance is the last virtue of a degenerate society”UnknownAmerican Christians, we are at a crucial time in our nation’s history. Wecan speak now or lose our freedom to speak. We can act now or facepersecution. There is one last thing I want to leave you with. It is a simplebut undeniable truth that every Christian needs to burn into their heart. It isthis; Christians are not called to be tolerant of evil but are called to exposethe darkness to the light of Jesus Christ. God willing, I will write you again.

The 'Amarillo Boys' have a right to think and say whatever they want, but not to harrass people because they disapprove of what they do with their private lives, what religion they follow or what kind of movies they like to watch.

Apparently Pastor Todd and some of the other posters here are Christians who never read the Sermon on the Mount, which summarize the teachings of Jesus. Or maybe they believe the words of Paul, John or some preacher are superior to the words of their Lord. If you believe God is omnipotent and everlasting, why not let Him deal with the swingers in His own way, without your interference? Or don't you trust God that far?

Instead of concentrating on the sins of others, you might try focusing on your own. Or are you all now completely without sin and ready to pick up a stone?

What a generation of vipers you've become, and all in the name of the Lord. And as to praying on the streets of Amarillo -- this is specifically against Jesus' instructions in Matthew 6:5-6:

"And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
"But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."

You might also read further down in the same chapter of Matthew (14-15) and reflect on these words from Jesus:

"For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
"But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."

Harder then condemnation and hatred (and it is hatred, no matter how you try to spin it otherwise) is love and forgiveness. Apparently too hard for this breed of gun-toting Christian, in thrall to false prophets like David Grisham and ravening wolves in sheep's clothing -- or black uniforms, as the case may be.

“And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”

You might also read further down in the same chapter of Matthew (14-15) and reflect on these words from Jesus:

“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
“But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

Harder then condemnation and hatred (and it is hatred, no matter how you try to spin it otherwise) is love and forgiveness. Apparently too hard for this breed of gun-toting Christian, in thrall to false prophets like David Grisham and ravening wolves in sheep’s clothing — or black uniforms, as the case may be.

Hey, Bob. Did you miss the article you actually intended to comment on, or the comment you intended to respond to?

Of course you have every right to believe what you what.

But the fact that Westboro protesters protest funerals of soldiers who die fighting for us, and love to tell us who God hates in song and on sign, tells me what the message actually is. And it is a principle in this nation that everyone, no matter how vile, has a right to representation/advocacy. I don't always agree with the ACLU. But I support their right to advocate for what they believe is right, just like I support your right to advocate and even respond to you.

To quote from the second link you pasted...

"For us, it is a fundamental First Amendment case," John Roberts, executive director of the Massachusetts branch of the ACLU, told Boston Globe Wednesday. "It has to do with communications on a website, and material that does not promote any kind of criminal behavior whatsoever."

This is a principle that could equally apply to the "Amarillo boys" and their website, depending upon your interpretation of the intent of all the military images and the bullet.

And did you notice the headline on your first link?

"ACLU Sues for Anti-Gay Group That Pickets at Troops' Burials"

This is what the ACLU does. It supports rights: even for the most vile. That's because, even if they are vile, in this country they still have rights: even if their website seems to suggest that swingers and Gays should have a bullet blown through their heads or attacked by some "army."

Whatever someone does, or doesn't, tell their mother is between her and her mother, IMO. And, yes, God. But I think God can handle that himself. Don't you?

As far as "what the Bible says," the issue isn't "their right to stand up," but how one "stands up:" protesting... or harassing and inciting violence with images of tanks and the sound of a bullet.

   Who would Jesus kill?
